Abstract in brief

  • Mirabegron, a 3-adrenergic receptor agonist, improves glucose regulation and insulin sensitivity in obese, insulin-resistant humans by promoting the conversion of white fat to energy-burning beige fat.
  • The treatment reduces fibrotic gene expression and enhances immune cell activity in white adipose tissue, leading to better metabolic function, with those showing the most fat "beiging" experiencing the greatest benefits.
  • In skeletal muscle, mirabegron decreases triglyceride accumulation, increases oxidative fiber types, and promotes gene expression associated with muscle energy production, suggesting improved muscle function indirectly benefits from beige fat formation.]

If this pans out, it could be a really great thing for many of our OAB patients. Better glucose control also leads to less diuresis

Had a question about a hypothetical drug leading to weight loss without any significant CV or GI effects. Ans: Beta-3 agonist So I looked it up. Apparently trials are already happening w/ mirabegron in humans for weight loss and glycemic control
