Abstract in brief

A study was conducted to find safer, more effective treatments for severe antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)-associated vasculitis using plasma exchange and different doses of oral glucocorticoids.
Outcomes showed that plasma exchange did not significantly decrease death or end-stage kidney disease compared to no plasma exchange, while a reduced-dose glucocorticoid regimen was found to be noninferior to the standard dose, with less serious infections.
The results highlight that although plasma exchange didn't show a major benefit, the reduced-dose glucocorticoid option could be a safer alternative for patients with this condition.
