Abstract Synopsis

  • Jamais vu is a phenomenon where familiar things feel strange or unfamiliar, the opposite of déjà vu.
  • Researchers conducted experiments where participants repeatedly copied words, prompting feelings of peculiarity or strangeness, which they identified as jamais vu.
  • Although the study found some links between déjà vu and jamais vu, key differences suggest that while they are related, they are not the same experience.
