Abstract Synopsis

  • The study investigated the relationship between daily step count, stepping intensity, and mortality among US adults aged 40 and older.
  • Participants wore accelerometers for up to 7 days, and their health outcomes were tracked over approximately 10 years.
  • Results indicated a clear association; those who took fewer steps had significantly higher mortality rates, particularly from cardiovascular disease and cancer.
