EngagementModerate engagement

Participants reference specific behaviors, such as animals exhibiting nocturnal activities, and discuss implications, which reflects moderate engagement.

ImpactModerate impact

There is a perception that understanding animal responses to natural events like eclipses can influence wildlife research and conservation efforts.

Abstract in brief

  • The study observed how 17 different types of animals (mammals, birds, and reptiles) at Riverbanks Zoo reacted during the 2017 total solar eclipse, noting that such rare events can cause unusual behaviors in animals.
  • Researchers recorded behaviors before, during, and after the eclipse, noting significant changes such as some animals behaving as if it were night, showing signs of anxiety, or engaging in new activities, particularly reptiles.
  • The findings suggest that the eclipse, a rare and natural event, can influence animal behavior in various ways, highlighting the importance of understanding how environmental changes impact wildlife.]
