Abstract Synopsis
- The study found a U-shaped relationship between potassium intake and blood pressure, meaning that moderate increases in potassium can lower BP, but very high intake might actually increase BP.
- Potassium's blood pressure-lowering effects were more significant in people with hypertension and those with higher sodium intake, but excessive potassium, especially above 80mmold, could have adverse effects.
- The research suggests that while increasing potassium intake within a healthy range can help reduce blood pressure, too much potassium should be avoided, particularly in certain groups like those on antihypertensive medications.]
