Interesting analysis of a large data set of #COVID19 cases by @bengoldacre et al in @nature: “[A]ge was strongly associated with [mortality] risk, with those ≥80 years having more than 20-fold increased risk than 50-59 year olds.” https://t.co/ZbnbeGjtIH https://t.co/5bKIWcCDWY

Abstract Synopsis

  • The study utilized the OpenSAFELY platform to analyze health data from over 17 million adults in England to identify factors linked to COVID-19 related deaths.
  • Key risk factors included being male, older age, living in deprived areas, having conditions like diabetes and severe asthma, and being from Black or South Asian ethnic backgrounds, who faced higher risks compared to white individuals.
  • The findings represent one of the largest cohort studies on COVID-19 mortality and indicate that ongoing data updates will continue to refine our understanding of these risk factors.
