@AlzSocCymru @alzheimerssoc The social care system absolutely needs to be overhauled and prioritised, something that has been promised far too long. My research highlights how people with #dementia face many barriers in accessing care: https://t.co/r59hKowxMo

Abstract Synopsis

  • Access to social support services, like day care centers, is crucial for people living with dementia to remain at home longer.
  • The study explored the inequalities in accessing these services before and after the COVID-19 pandemic, revealing persistent and worsening access issues for individuals and their unpaid carers.
  • Key barriers identified included transportation, finances, and location, with additional struggles during the pandemic related to securing basic necessities like food and medication.
