The findings are viewed as potentially influential, especially given the mention of genetic markers and controversy, though the overall perception of immediate real-world impact is moderate.
Abstract in brief
This study analyzed the largest group of patients with Cannabinoid Hyperemesis Syndrome (CHS), identifying specific genetic mutations linked to the condition, particularly in genes related to neurotransmitters, the endocannabinoid system, and cannabinoid metabolism.
Patients with CHS often experienced symptom improvement after stopping cannabis, but symptoms frequently recurred upon resumption, highlighting the link between ongoing THC exposure and the syndrome.
Despite some reluctance to undergo genetic testing, the research uncovered significant genetic differences in CHS patients, pointing to potential biological factors underlying susceptibility to the syndrome amid increasing cannabis use.]

@gahard @CoDoc442 @JustinTrudeau @KevinSabet I'm skeptical of 38%. Yes, maybe CHS goes up with potency but, as I understand it, there's probably a genetic vulnerability. CHS results (for some) from long-term, heavy use, so dose is more relevant than potency. Experienced consumers titrate their dose.

"Scromiting" is a seldom used slang term for screaming and vomiting. Screaming is a seldom seen symptom. Both symptoms may or may not be associated with CHS, a rare condition arising in a few vulnerable consumers from long-term, heavy cannabis consumption.

@DrMarcusDay @SteveTransform @EveSimmns @snopes @MetroUK A cannabis OD, or contaminants, can cause vomiting, but that's not the same thing as CHS, which requires heavy consumption over a long period of time.

Many CHS sufferers disbelieve THC overexposure etiology and abstinence for remission; alternative hypothesis, exposure to neem; may appear with chronic use of synthetic K2/Spice. Opinions of etiology, 30% - problem ECS, 6% - pesticides, 2% - neem. https://t.co/gWIo9E8wEw

@AngelJustice121 @CoDoc442 Although some who have been diagnosed with CHS have suspected contaminants, several lines of evidence implicate cannabinoids, especially THC. There also seems to be a genetic component. That is, only some long-term, heavy, chronic consumers are at risk.

@ToxoftheNorth @ketaminh @EMAJournal Hmmm...Be interesting to see if your future work supports the notion in this paper by Russo et al that CHS is a "manifestation of gene–environment interaction in a rare genetic disease unmasked by a toxic reaction to excessive THC exposure." https://t.co/WFgaBQfmwH
@lucprevost Dr. Ethan Russo has patented a test for markers in CHS patients - hopefully it'll be commercialized soon.
