Abstract Synopsis

  • The Delta variant of SARS-CoV-2, originating from the B1617 lineage in India, has mutations that enhance its ability to evade the immune response, making it a dominant strain in several regions.
  • Research showed that specific monoclonal antibodies, as well as antibodies from convalescent individuals and vaccinated persons, were significantly less effective against the Delta variant compared to earlier strains like Alpha.
  • Vaccination with two doses of Pfizer or AstraZeneca does elicit neutralizing antibodies, but their effectiveness is reduced by three to five times against the Delta variant compared to the Alpha variant.
