The overall tone indicates strong support and engagement, with examples like calls to challenge outdated beliefs about ADHD, detailed citations of the NIH study, and discussions about the lifelong nature of the disorder, all driven by words that emphasize importance, debate, and scientific evidence.
AgreementStrong agreement
Most discussions strongly support the study’s findings, emphasizing that the majority of children with ADHD continue to experience symptoms into adulthood, challenging previous notions of full remission.
InterestHigh interest
The subject appears highly engaging to the community, with repeated references to the study’s implications and statistics about lifetime persistence of ADHD.
EngagementHigh engagement
The discussions demonstrate deep interest through detailed references to the research, sharing of links, and debates about the nature of ADHD remission, showing active engagement with the topic.
ImpactHigh impact
The findings seem to have significant influence, as many posts highlight a shift in understanding ADHD’s trajectory, urging changes in support and treatment for adults.
Abstract in brief
The study examined the long-term outcomes of childhood ADHD in a sample of 558 children, focusing on recovery and remission patterns into adulthood.
About 30% of the children experienced full remission at some point, but most had relapses, with only 9.1% achieving sustained remission by adulthood.
Findings indicate that instead of the commonly believed 50% outgrowing ADHD, most participants had fluctuating symptoms, with 90% continuing to experience residual issues into young adulthood.*

@kumkitteh @itinerantfog @charles75602632 @GreenZenForest I thought so too and had to do some research. Check out this study from the NIH from 2021. Im assuming the results are due to neuroplasticity meaning the disorder can be transient and fluctuate, including full remission.
