My biggest old hippie opinion is people who use psychedelics as party drugs need to either only do it very occasionally or are playing brain roulette. (That said, my personal consumption is/was not exactly super cautious so maybe I'm just an old man.)

mildness is a great term, imo. like, the sensation of “I am loved” or “I am now dead” aren’t…visual, per se, but are ~senses~ that people can have in psychedelics. developing methods to modulate/attenuate those down to “suggestions” rather than “boomed from the divine” would be good
when people have bad outcomes with psychedelics, it's very rarely because they tried to drive or whatever, or because they got really into visual hallucinations, it's because flooding the brain with seratonin makes you notice patterns in everything which is, again, psychosis
disrupting the processes that get fundamentally altered by psychedelics will almost definitely always change the brain, the "hallucinations" are extreme side effects of highly altering the brain's balance in that way
it’s possible, but I prefer a slightly more open position, rather than presuming to slot effects into elements or effects within our existing framework. i think the Western model of “the mind” is young enough and can allow study of psychedelics to transform how we understand our minds and experience

Right, but predicting who will have a psychotic break when you are pulling from a population that has mental health issues in need of treatment isn't exactly easy. Probably why I lean towards a treatment like magnets before I would do psychedelics even if the response to psychedelics is faster.
I mean, if someone's prone to psychosis I don't think psychedelics are ever going to be close to risk free for them for sure, certainly not anything in the category we're discussing here. They basically make you psychotic, psychosis is in considerable part about seratonin + dopamine activation
I'm a huge fan of controlled use of psychedelics for mental health. I rebuilt myself after deep trauma with LSD, introspection, and a (barely) surmountable pile of shit to deal with. Having a therapist to guide that recovery would have helped enormously. But I'll take my wins where I can
