Stanley Rowbotham, born in 1890, was a pioneering anesthetist in the 20th century who initially served with the Royal Army Medical Corps after qualifying in 1915.
Following World War I, he collaborated with Ivan Magill at Gilliess's plastic surgery unit, where they developed the principles of tracheal anesthesia.
He was innovative in advancing anesthesia techniques, including thyroid anesthesia, basal narcosis, intravenous analgesia, muscle relaxants, and was the first to introduce cyclopropane anesthesia into the UK.]
