Abstract in brief
- Regular exercise can help women with PCOS improve their heart and lung fitness, as well as reduce waist size, but it does not significantly change blood pressure, blood sugar, insulin resistance, or cholesterol levels.
- A systematic review and meta-analysis of 18 studies with 593 women found that exercise lasting around 4 weeks positively impacted cardiorespiratory fitness and waist circumference in women with PCOS.
- More research is needed to clarify whether exercise can also improve other health markers related to cardiometabolic risk in women with more severe symptoms.
