A Randomized, Open-Label, Multicenter, Phase 3 Study of High-Dose Vitamin C Plus FOLFOX ± Bevacizumab versus FOLFOX ± Bevacizumab in Unresectable Untreated Metastatic Colorectal Cancer (VITALITY Study).
The groups of discussions reveal widespread skepticism about the effectiveness of high-dose vitamin C in improving outcomes for colorectal cancer, with phrases like 'failed to improve metrics' and 'no effect' reflecting a dismissive tone. However, some comments highlight potential benefits in specific genetic contexts, such as RAS mutations, indicating ongoing interest and nuanced engagement with the scientific evidence.
AgreementLow agreement
Most discussions recognize that high-dose vitamin C does not provide clear benefits for metastatic colorectal cancer, with some acknowledging the lack of significant effects observed in the study.
InterestHigh interest
There is high interest in the topic, especially regarding its potential effects on specific mutations like RAS, and in the debate around vitamin C's role in cancer treatment.
EngagementModerate engagement
The discussions show moderate engagement, with some users referencing preclinical evidence, clinical trial outcomes, and genetic factors, but many comments are brief or dismissive.
ImpactNeutral impact
The overall influence appears modest; while the topic sparks curiosity, few comments suggest the findings will drastically change clinical practices or perceptions about vitamin C’s efficacy in cancer treatment.
Abstract in brief
The study aimed to assess whether adding high-dose vitamin C to the standard chemotherapy (FOLFOX ± bevacizumab) would improve outcomes for patients with metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC).
Results showed that there was no significant difference in progression-free survival (PFS), overall survival (OS), or response rates between the vitamin C group and the control group, although patients with RAS mutations did experience longer PFS with vitamin C.
Overall, high-dose vitamin C did not provide a clear benefit over standard chemotherapy for mCRC, except potentially for patients with specific genetic mutations (RAS mutation).

@LeMediaEn442 Le taux de réponse objective (ORR) et la survie globale (OS) des groupes expérimental et témoin étaient similaires (ORR, 44,3 % contre 42,1 % ; P = 0,9 ; OS médiane, 20,7 contre 19,7 mois ; P = 0,7).

Thank you for correcting us. Based on some preclinical evidence (10.1126/science.aaa5004), vitC could selectively target RAS and BRAF-mutant CRC models. However, a clinical study reported a significant PFS difference only in RAS-mutant CRC (chemo+vitC, 10.1158/1078-0432.CCR-22-0655).
Thanks again!
@Aiims1742 @OncoAlert @PanCAN This is the first randomized trial I believe showing a tangible benefit in #KRAS-mutant cancers as a primary endpoint.
