Abstract Synopsis
- This study reviewed existing research to understand how caffeine (3-9 mg/kg) influences endurance running performance, specifically looking at time to exhaustion and time trials, and found that caffeine generally has a positive effect on enhancing running endurance.
- The analysis included 21 randomized controlled trials with a total of 254 participants, mostly men, and distinguished between recreational and trained runners to assess how caffeine impacts different performance levels.
- Overall, the findings suggest that caffeine can be an effective ergogenic aid for improving endurance in running, although most evidence is based on laboratory cycling studies, and more specific research on running is needed.]
