Abstract Synopsis

  • A study evaluated ExxonMobil's climate projections from 1977 to 2003, and found that many of their forecasts matched later climate observations.
  • Their predictions were as accurate as those made by independent academic and government models, correctly anticipating significant global warming and accurately estimating when it would become noticeable.
  • Despite their scientific accuracy, ExxonMobil's public statements on climate science often contradicted the findings of their own research.
