What people are saying
The discussions highlight critical aspects of myasthenic crisis with users referencing various real-world cases, treatments (like efgartigimod, plasmapheresis, and eculizumab), and patient experiences. For instance, one user shared how rapid intervention during a crisis averted a life-threatening situation, emphasizing the urgency conveyed with terms like 'must consider' and 'game changer.' This choice of language indicates a palpable concern for medical outcomes and reflects the overall serious tone in discussions.
Most discussions reflect a consensus on the significance of the concepts presented in the publication.
Users demonstrate a high level of curiosity about the implications and medical advancements related to myasthenic crisis.
While some discussions are insightful, others seem more casual, indicating a mix of depth in engagement.
There is a strong perception that the findings and discussions surrounding the article may significantly influence treatment approaches and patient awareness.
Abstract in brief
- Myasthenic crisis (MC) is a serious condition related to myasthenia gravis (MG), characterized by respiratory failure that often requires ventilation support due to muscle weakness.
- MC typically occurs in 15-20% of MG patients, commonly within the first 2-3 years of diagnosis, and can be triggered by factors like respiratory infections; however, a specific trigger is not identified in 30-40% of cases.
- Immediate treatment focuses on airway management and addressing triggers, with plasmapheresis favored for severe cases; most patients can be weaned from mechanical ventilation within a month, and the overall prognosis is favorable with a low mortality rate of under 5%.

Myasthenia gravis is a chronic autoimmune disease where patients suffer from debilitating fatigable muscle weakness requiring lifelong management. This retrospective, multi-center study examined the impact of maintenance steroid-sparing immunosuppression (SSIS) and prednisone dosage on myasthenic crisis (MC) outcomes and the development of sepsis.
Myasthenic crisis can be improved by maintaining steroid-sparing immunosuppression and using lower prednisone doses, as these factors reduce the risk of life-threatening sepsis.
