Abstract in brief

An RNA polymerase ribozyme was developed through directed evolution, allowing for effective replication and selection of functional RNA, facilitating a form of Darwinian evolution.
Earlier polymerase versions had low copying fidelity, which hindered the propagation of functional information, but a new, higher-fidelity variant successfully replicated the hammerhead ribozyme.
