Abstract Synopsis
- Scientists have struggled for years to create artificial legs that can mimic the natural movement of biological limbs, mainly due to the complex neural controls involved.
- A new study proposes that enhancing the remaining muscle connections in amputees can significantly improve their ability to control bionic limbs, leading to more natural walking patterns.
- Results from testing this approach in seven amputees showed a 41% increase in walking speed and better adaptation to different environments, suggesting even minor improvements in muscle signaling can greatly enhance mobility for amputees.
