Knee flexion range of motion does not influence muscle hypertrophy of the quadriceps femoris during leg press training in resistance-trained individuals.
Most comments explicitly affirm the study’s conclusion that the range of motion does not affect quadriceps hypertrophy, using phrases like 'similar hypertrophy at 100 degrees vs full ROM' and 'does not influence muscle hypertrophy', which reflect agreement and support. The tone remains informative but modest, emphasizing the validity of the research without overly dramatizing its implications, indicating moderate engagement and impact.
AgreementStrong agreement
Most discussions clearly support the study's findings that knee ROM does not significantly impact quadriceps hypertrophy, with positive phrasing like 'shows that' and 'supporting the idea'.
InterestModerate interest
The social discussions indicate moderate interest, with some posts sharing insights and praising the research, but others lack vivid engagement with broader implications.
EngagementModerate engagement
Posts reference specific aspects of the study, such as the ROM angles and muscle groups examined, but mostly through brief summaries rather than deep critique or application.
ImpactModerate impact
The consensus suggests the findings could influence training approaches, although the discussions do not showcase widespread or urgent calls to action.
Abstract in brief
The study found that using either a limited (around 10-15 degrees) or maximum knee flexion range during leg presses resulted in similar muscle growth in the quadriceps of trained individuals over 8 weeks.
Both knee flexion ranges led to small to moderate increases in quadriceps muscle thickness, indicating that range of motion doesn't significantly impact hypertrophy in resistance-trained people.
Bayesian analysis strongly supports the idea that knee flexion ROM has no substantial effect on muscle hypertrophy, meaning trainers can choose their preferred range without affecting results.]
Our new study shows that quad hypertrophy is similar at a ROM of 100 degrees vs full ROM in the leg press. We didn't assess other muscles (glutes, adductors, etc), which have been shown to benefit from full ROM. Kudos to @StianLa07849895 for spearheading. https://t.co/0Id08Uh1e8 https://t.co/QEwkBBQ9jo

In our new study we observed that quadriceps femoris hypertrophy was similar between full ROM and 100 degrees ROM in the leg press. We didn't measure growth in the hip extensors, which have been observed to increase growth from full ROM training

Research shows that training at 90 degrees knee flexion maximizes muscle growth while minimizing joint stress. Going beyond this angle offers no additional hypertrophy and may affect long-term strength and recovery.
Research shows training at 90 degrees knee flexion is optimal for muscle growth and joint health. Going beyond this range does not enhance hypertrophy and may hinder strength and stability, impacting long-term progress.
