Abstract Synopsis
- Gallbladder cancer (GBC) is the most common type of biliary tract cancer and is responsible for a significant portion of cancer-related deaths, with risk factors including gender, age, ethnicity, and chronic gallbladder inflammation.
- Surgery is the only potential cure for early-stage GBC, but only about 10% of patients are eligible, though some advanced cases may benefit from secondary surgery after initial treatment.
- Current treatments for advanced GBC mainly involve chemotherapy with gemcitabine and cisplatin, while new approaches like immune checkpoint inhibitors and targeted therapies based on molecular profiling show promise for improving patient outcomes in the future.
