Abstract Synopsis

  • Human Predictive Patch Tests (HPPTs) have been used since the 1940s to identify chemicals that cause skin sensitization in humans.
  • Researchers compiled a large database of 2,277 HPPT results for 1,366 chemicals and analyzed their usefulness in classifying skin sensitizers according to international standards like GHS.
  • The study suggests replacing or supplementing the current dose per skin area (DSA) measure with new dose descriptors that better reflect sensitization risk, and proposes standardized methods to interpret HPPT data alongside other tests like the LLNA for more accurate classifications.]
